Lisette de Greeuw dives into thought patterns with her work, tries to systematize or make clear how her drawings can carry meanings. For example, she bases herself on embroidery patterns, in which the schematic representation of characters and colors refer to images. “These drawings are the starting point of my translations into material. I am convinced that when you translate something, it can provide information, but a lot of information can also be lost. ” With her series she subtly demonstrates the vulnerability of language and communication, how we sometimes cannot find the words, or try to find out what we mean ourselves. With new structures and measured signs, she draws squares, blocks, dashes again and again until shapes can acquire meaning.
